According to published comments from its CFO, Infosys says it may buy consulting businesses for as much as $200 million to attract more clients.
Wipro tried this before. That company went on a buying binge several years back to bolster its then-nascent management consulting business. Reaching higher on the advisory scale singed Wipro’s wings, after disastrous boutique acquisitions like NerveWire.
Both of those companies use consulting services as the “spear-tip” to help bag huge outsourcing contracts.
